Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
On 12th April 2025, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith commissioned a new group of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) during a solemn Eucharistic Celebration at All Saints’ Church, Borella. Organized by the Archdiocesan Office for Divine Worship, the event marked a significant moment in the Church’s mission of service.
Extraordinary Ministers are laypersons specially appointed to assist in distributing Holy Communion during Mass and to the sick or homebound when priests or deacons are unavailable. Their role highlights the Church’s commitment to ensuring that the Eucharist reaches all members of the faithful.
Why EMHCs Matter
Service to the Church: EMHCs help in large congregations and minister to the sick and elderly.
Lay Participation: Their role reflects the active involvement of laypeople in the Church’s sacramental life.
Eucharistic Witness: Through reverent service, they inspire devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
This ministry is not only a task but a sacred calling—to bring the Body of Christ to others with love, humility, and faith.
