The day's proceedings commenced with the ushering of the representatives to the auditorium at 8.00 am. His Eminence, the auxiliary bishops, and representatives of other Christian denominations arrived at 9.00 am. After the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the dignitaries and representatives, Fr. Indika Joseph conducted the opening prayer. His Eminence addressing the gathering explained the purpose of the synod recommended by Pope Francis.

Then commenced the presentations of the consultation papers for each of the ten themes. After the presenter read the paper, the bishop opened the floor for discussion. Many people participated in the discussions and voiced their opinions. Then the representatives voted for the approval of the paper. It was a very fruitful and eye-opening experience for all.
