The Vatican Press Office has announced the appointment of Andrzej Józwowicz as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka.
In the official bulletin titled Resignations and Appointments, published on 31 January 2026, the Holy Father appointed Archbishop Józwowicz, Titular Archbishop of Lauriacum, to serve as the Holy See’s diplomatic representative in Sri Lanka. He previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to Iran.
Born on 14 January 1965 in Poland, Archbishop Józwowicz was ordained a priest on 24 May 1990 and incardinated into the Diocese of Łowicz in 1992. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Rwanda in 2017, the same year he was ordained a bishop. In 2021, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Iran.
With this new appointment, Archbishop Józwowicz brings years of pastoral and diplomatic experience to his mission in Sri Lanka, strengthening the relationship between the Holy See and the local Church.
