Three Men Ordained to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Colombo

On Saturday, 4th October 2025, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith ordained three men to the Sacred Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Colombo.

In his homily, His Eminence reflected on the words of Christ: “I will make you fishers of men.” He reminded the newly ordained—and all priests present—that every priest is personally called by Christ Himself. Though unworthy servants, they are chosen to carry out the Lord’s work. His Eminence further emphasized that the priesthood is not measured by how much a priest does, but by how deeply he abides in the presence of the Lord. “Being with the Lord,” he said, “is the most important mission of any priest.” (Read the full homily here)

The newly ordained priests are:

Rev. Fr. E. Don Deshan Madushanka de Almeida, from the Parish of Kelaniya, sent to the seminary by Rev. Fr. Gihan Ridly. He will serve as Assistant Parish Priest of Hapugoda.

Rev. Fr. K. J. K. Shehan Brian, from the Parish of Kalutara, sent to the seminary by Rev. Fr. Suran Attidiya. He will serve as Assistant Parish Priest of Moragoda.

Rev. Fr. Roy Jeffry Weimann, from the Parish of Batagama, sent to the seminary by Rev. Fr. Nishan Wilathgouwa. He will serve as Assistant Parish Priest of Waga.

The Mass of Ordination was celebrated at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena, in a solemn and joyful ceremony attended by clergy, religious, and the faithful.

Joining the newly ordained in their assignments is Rev. Fr. A. A. Sri Channindu Silva, who was ordained by Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome, on 27th June 2025, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. He hails from the Parish of Thibbatugoda and was sent to the seminary by Rev. Fr. Ranjith Terry. Fr. Channindu will serve as Assistant Parish Priest of Ragama.

After the ordination ceremony, all priests gathered at the Bishop’s House to extend their felicitations to the newly ordained. During this gathering, the new priestly appointments and transfers for 2025 were also announced. (Click here to view the full list of new appointments)

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our newly ordained priests. May the Lord bless and guide you as you begin your ministry in your new parishes.
