Marriage and family life stand at the heart of the life of the Church. In the Catholic tradition, marriage is not merely a private arrangement but a sacred vocation, a covenant of love established by God for the good of the spouses, the welcoming of children, and the strengthening of family life. The Archdiocese therefore seeks to accompany couples, parents, children, and families at every stage of life through formation, guidance, and compassionate support. Through these ministries, we hope to strengthen Catholic marriage, promote responsible family life, and offer faith-filled resources rooted in the teachings of the Church. This pastoral mission is carried out through three important initiatives: the Catholic Marriage Proposal Mission (CMPM), the Archdiocesan Family Resource Mission (AFRM), and the Archdiocesan Family Counselling Mission (AFCM). Their office dates, times, and contact numbers will be provided below.
Catholic Marriage Proposal Mission (CMPM)
The Catholic Marriage Proposal Mission (CMPM) serves as a pastoral support ministry for Catholics seeking serious and faith-centered guidance in view of marriage. It aims to help individuals and families approach the vocation of marriage with prayer, responsibility, and fidelity to Catholic teaching. This mission seeks to promote the dignity of Christian marriage by encouraging suitable introductions and careful discernment within a faith-filled framework.
Archdiocesan Family Resource Mission (AFRM)
The Archdiocesan Family Resource Mission (AFRM) offers formation programs in Sinhala, Tamil, and English for Catholic schools, preschools, and Sunday schools. These one-hour programs are designed for a wide range of groups, including children, teenagers, youth, young parents, senior parents, single parents, grandparents, and teachers. Each session includes multimedia presentations and printed booklets in all three languages, making the content accessible, practical, and rooted in Catholic values.
Topics include:
- Responsible parenting
- Digital addiction and the harmful use of digital devices
- Addiction to pornography
- Pro-life formation and the dignity of human life
- My Creator, My Body, My Gender - a Catholic response to modern sexual orientations
- The Holy Family - Catholic teaching on marriage and the upbringing of children
These programs aim to strengthen family life, deepen moral formation, and support Catholic educators and parents in addressing today's pastoral and social challenges with clarity and faith.
